Strawberry Fields Smoothie Company began almost by accident in Vermont in 1979 |

One warm, sunny day, Strawberry Fields Smoothie Co. founder, Lary Budnick decided to pick fresh strawberries at a local farm in upstate Vermont. The strawberries were red-ripe and juicy. Infatuated, Lary couldn’t help but taste these tantalizing berries. He discovered they were bursting with sweet natural juices. |

As if intoxicated by the sweet pungent scent and the juicy flavor,
Lary continued picking and eating these luscious strawberries until the
sun went down. When he got home, Lary discovered that he had picked more
strawberries than his 21 cubic foot freezer could hold. |

Having always been involved with good health and natural foods, Lary started mixing various fruit combinations in his blender. Finally, after many attempts and many blends he decided to share his delicious beverage creation with his friends and made them a sample of his first professionally blended strawberry fruit smoothie. They were immediately bowled over by the sweet taste of this icy, thick, creamy fruit drink. |

Asked if he used any sweeteners to enhance the flavor of this incredible beverage, he replied that the fresh sweet flavor results from country grown ripe strawberries and the correct blend of other fresh fruits. |

They all told him he should patent his formula and sell these fabulous drinks at the upcoming county fair. Lary, excited by the response of his friends, decided right then and there to pursue this business opportunity. Filled with enthusiasm, he set to work building the first original fruit smoothie stand. The year was 1979 |

Lary loved the name Strawberry Fields and used it in honor of those first fresh strawberries he picked from the strawberry fields that hot summer day. |

|
At his first fair, people were attracted to the colorful booth and were intrigued with the mouth-watering fruit smoothies he created over and over again. Repeat customers kept returning for more. Business was brisk! |
||
|
Lary was so busy his first weekend in business, that he hired help to pick additional strawberries, as he had depleted his entire freezer of inventory on the very first day in business. |
